Money, success or fame may be the benchmarks of happienss but a new study from Petaling Jaya in Malaysia is looking at a different measurement: waist size.

Dr.  Alvin Ng Lai Oan, a clinical psychologist from the University Kebangsaan Malaysun said that obese and overweight people are more likely to suffer from psychological problems than people with a optimal weight.   He also cited that waist line and body mass index are related to levels of self esteem and satisfaction in life.

Dr. Farisah Ismal, a endocrinological consultant from the Gleneagly Intari Medical Center said that only as little as 10 percent weight loss have a significant improvement in an individual’s health.

Happiness and smoking does not mix.

Articles Science — Tags: , Dos @ 8:17 am

In Hollywood, cigarettes are stereotyped as a tool in expressing anger, sadness or just simply showing a character having a big problem. Typically, every movie that shows excessive smoking has themes related to depression, sadness or violence.Movies are an extension of reality, they say, and people from the Peninsula Medical School in England reinforces that smoking is not for the happy people.

Dr. Iain Lang, the study’s leader found out in a study involving 9176 people aged 50 and above that smoking does not cause any pleasure at all. “We found no evidence to support the claim that smoking is associated with pleasure…” he said.

Dr Lang also said that although people smoke because of the so called “pleasure” they get from it, in fact, they are just smoking because they are addicted.

Results also show that smoking is also linked to a poorer overall quality of life, that smoking people are less than happy in their lives.

Thinking about quitting? It may be beneficial not just for yourself but for your happiness also.
