People love to talk. Be it the latest gossip or a debate between Obama and Clinton, it seems like we can never stop moving our jaws and tongue in a fashion that creates communication. Talking is also the characteristic that sets us apart from animals. People can communicate specifically: through words. But do you know that talking to someone can be a form of therapy?

Psychologist Rich Walker of Winston-Salem State University discovered that whatever one tells, be it positive or negative, can greatly affect his feeling a few weeks later.

He said that when one has a problem, let’s say a intended breakup between couples, talking about the problem to another creates a cushion that softens the impact when the event occurs.

He stated that when talking works best when there are lots of audiences of different variations. It helps when the story is told to a variety of people.

Also, when people talk about potential problems, the emotional burden experienced is softened and can sometimes help someone avoid encountering the problem. This is beneficial to anxiety sufferers as they tend to worry a lot and having someone to talk to and share their problems decreases their anxiety and will probably veer away from taking medications.
